Description

VITRO aims to design and evaluate an immersive Virtual Reality (VR) interface for the Unitree G1 humanoid robot, enabling intuitive, low-latency remote navigation and control. The system integrates first-person vision (ZED 2i), ROS 2 real-time streaming of video/audio/telemetry, and natural VR controls on Meta Quest 3, benchmarked against conventional interfaces (joystick/tablet). A mixed-methods evaluation with expert and non-expert operators quantifies precision, task time, latency, comfort, presence, and cognitive workload using validated instruments (NASA-TLX, SUS, IPQ).
Target application domains include education, technical maintenance, tourism, security, and health, where reliable remote assistance is required. The project follows a structured roadmap from requirements and hardware–comms integration to VR interface design, full system integration, and user trials, culminating in a validated, transferable prototype
